Broadchurch leads RTS Awards nominations

‘Broadchurch’ leads the nominations for this year’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards.

The ITV murder-mystery drama has notched up four nods – including Best Actress for both Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker – at the annual television industry awards, but Channel 4 has the most nominations of any broadcaster with 19.

In addition to the two Best Actress nods, ‘Broadchurch’ is also up for Best Drama Serial and creator Chris Chibnall is nominated for Best Drama Writer.

Sharon Rooney, who stars in E4’s ‘My Mad Fat Diary’, will compete with Olivia and Jodie in the Best Actress field.

The Best Actor nominees include Idris Elba for ‘Luther’, Stephen Dillane for Sky’s ‘The Tunnel’ and ‘Run’ actor Lennie James.

Drama Serial nominees include ‘Broadchurch’, ‘Top of the Lake’ and ‘In the Flesh’, while Channel 4’s ‘Utopia’, BBC Two’s ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘My Mad Fat Diary’ will compete for Best Drama Series.

Ant and Dec – who recently celebrated 25 years in TV – are nominated for two awards, including Best Entertainment Programme for ‘Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway’ and Best Entertainment Performance for their work on the show, as well as ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
