Britain’s Queen Elizabeth will present The Royal Welsh regiment with their new colours.
The 89-year-old monarch will honour the Infantry regiment at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on June 11 and will be joined by members of the public from the UK and Wales, reports BBC News.
The Queen has been asked to present the new colours to the soldiers after the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Wales merged to form the new unit in 2006.
Members of the force – which has served in both Afghanistan and Iraq – and their families will then have the chance to meet the royal following the ceremony.
Queen Elizabeth will be honoured by the city’s troops herself on June 13th when the 104 Regiment Royal Artillery will fire a 21 gun salute outside Cardiff Bay’s Senedd building to mark her official birthday.
The regiment also fired a 21 gun salute earlier this week to mark the 62nd anniversary of her coronation which took place on June 2nd 1953.
