Britain’s Queen Elizabeth returns to London

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has returned to London after her Christmas holiday.

The 89-year-old royal was seen boarding a train at King’s Lynn station, near her country retreat of Sandringham, yesterday morning (08.02.16) bound for London’s King’s Cross.

The Queen spent longer than usual at her Norfolk residence this year, which is no surprise as it is certain to be a busy 12 months for the monarch as she celebrates her ninetieth birthday.

To honour her milestone birthday this year, 25,000 lucky members of the public will join the four-day celebrations at Windsor Castle whilst the Queen’s official birthday will be marked by the traditional street party in the Mall and a Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Simon Brooks-Ward, who is producing and directing the Queen’s birthday celebrations, said: "We’ve been working hard to make this a most unique birthday celebration.

"We’re especially delighted with our plans to offer an extra 5,000 people the chance to be part of the celebrations through our balloted system for tickets on The Long Walk. This will take place in the New Year."

However, on the whole, the Queen is planning to do things "gently" this year.

A source said previously: "She will not be doing less, just doing it more gently. There is a lot happening between now and July, so it is about trying to find new ways for her to work less strenuously."
