Britain’s Prince Charles launches Prince’s Trust International

Britain’s Prince of Wales has launched the Prince’s Trust International.

The 67-year-old royal has announced plans to expand the UK youth charity, which has helped over 800,000 people since it was founded 39 years ago, in a visit to Malta.

Alan Kennedy, the chief executive of Prince’s Trust International, told Malta Today: "I’ve seen the difference The Prince’s Trust makes, supporting hundreds of thousands of young people into education and employment across the UK.

"Now we have the opportunity to develop the confidence and skills of young people in countries throughout the world. It’s an exciting opportunity to help tackle one of the defining issues of our time, youth unemployment, lifting young people out of poverty and despair."

The launch took place at a ceremony at the Palace in Valletta with the help of President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who has herself launched the President’s Trust after being inspired by the Prince.

Speaking at the time of the launch of her charity, the President said: "The poverty rates for Malta are striking, and the number of people at risk of poverty in the country was estimated at 100,000 in 2013," she said referring to NSO statistics. She added that poverty and social exclusion effecting people between 18 and 24 years of age, was even higher, with more than 31% of men and 32.6% of women being at risk of poverty at this age in 2013.

"The President’s Trust will be helping to break the cycle of poverty, social benefits and crime."
