Brendan O’Carroll tells Mrs Brown’s Boys critics to ‘change the channel’

Brendan O’Carroll has told critics of ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ to "change the f***ing channel".
The 64-year-old comedian created and portrays the outrageous titular Irish mother in the award-winning sitcom, and says he doesn’t give a damn about negative comments about the show because the proof of its brilliance is in the many awards it has picked up since hitting screens in 2011, including four National Television Awards prizes.
Brendan told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "Just change the f***ing channel.
"Honestly, I put on my dress and my t**s and go out and make people laugh and I come off, take off my dress, take off my t**s, get into the shower, come out and as soon as I come out of the theatre, I don’t even think about the show.
"The evidence of four NTA awards means people are not just liking it — they’re actually prepared to stand up and shout it.
"Radio Times named us ‘Sitcom of the Century’."
And Brendan has vowed to continue the programme’s reign at the NTAs.
He added: "We can only hope nothing good happens in the next eight decades to upset that."
The comedian’s wife, Jennifer Gibney, who portrays his daughter Cathy on the show, also admitted she has no idea why anyone could get "that annoyed" by the sitcom.
Agreeing with her spouse, she said: "I don’t understand how anybody could get that annoyed.
"There’s some telly I don’t like but I’d never be full of vitriol."
Meanwhile, Brendan recently revealed he refused to sell the rights to his alter ego to advertisers, and he insisted he has turned down numerous offers to appear in commercials for household goods and everyday food items over the years.
He said: "People wanted her for adverts but in the end I said no.
"I felt that if we do this then we would end up being tied to it for life and I didn’t want that.
"And anyway the product would have to have been really massive to make it worth it – something like a Christmas ad for M&S or Tesco."
‘Mrs Bown’s Boy’ also has a spin-off entertainment show called ‘All Round to Mrs Brown’s’, which launched in 2017 and features celebrity guests.
