Brendan O’Carroll snubs Netflix

‘Mrs Brown’s Boy’s creator Brendan O’Carroll has been offered a big money deal to make a new show for Netflix – but he’s turned it down.
The 61-year-old actor – who portrays the hilarious titular character in the series – has admitted he’s been approached by a number of television companies to create another programme with a different format for them but he’s snubbed every one so far.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: "The business over the years has changed. You are continuously asked for content. I mean continuously.
"If I was to say we are going to do three one-hour comedy mockumentaries about the importance of rabbit s**t, somebody would f***ing buy it.
"The most important thing right now is having someone who can deliver. That’s all that’s important right now. Unfortunately, that leads to a load of s**t being out."
For now, Brendan and his wife Jennifer Gibney – who also plays his on-screen daughter Cathy Brown – are focusing on their BBC series following a shake up in the format.
The show’s new layout sees Mrs Brown – also known as Agnes – interview a celebrity’s mother in the kitchen of her home while the famous star appears on stage, and Brendan has joked that he’d like to persuade Queen Elizabeth to appear on the series.
He said recently: "It can’t be a Christmas special because we’ve already got one [the regular Mrs Brown Christmas show has been commissioned by the BBC to 2020] but there’s nothing wrong with it being an Easter special."
And he could be in luck as he’s heard through the grapevine that the 90-year-old monarch and her husband Prince Philip are huge fans of the show and even requested a copy of the festive special to be sent to Buckingham Palace last year.
He added: "We also do know that they are personal fans! They’re mad about the show."
