Breck Eisner to direct Karate Kid 2?

Breck Eisner has been confirmed as director for ‘Karate Kid 2’.

Sony Pictures has negotiated a deal with the filmmaker to helm the follow-up to the popular martial arts action movie which will see Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan reunite, reports Deadline.com.

Eisner’s famous works include the gritty horror film ‘The Crazies’ and 2005 action-comedy adventure ‘Sahara’, starring Matthew McConaughey.

The pressure for Eisner to deliver will be high after the previous installment grossed $56 million on its opening weekend in the US and ended with $343 million worldwide when the Harald Zwart directed the film in 2010.

‘Karate Kid 2’ is a risk for Sony who has placed invested a lot of money into in the care and feeding of franchises with global appeal as the 1984 original is still considered by fans as a classic.

Meanwhile, Eisner is directing ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ which sees Vin Diesel star as the anti-hero on the wrong side of authority who is constantly being hunted.
