Bob Vylan ‘not regretful’ about controversial Glastonbury Festival chant

Bobby Vylan is “not regretful” over his controversial Glastonbury Festival chant.

Punk rap duo Bob Vylan faced backlash over their controversial performance at the summer spectacle after 34-year-old singer Bobby led the crowd in a chant of “death, death to the IDF” during their set, but the singer-guitarist would “do it again tomorrow”.

When asked on The Louis Theroux Podcast whether he would do it again, Bobby replied: “Oh yeah. Like what if I was to go on Glastonbury again tomorrow, yes I would do it again.

“I’m not regretful of it. I’d do it again tomorrow, twice on Sundays.”

Bobby – whose real name is Pascal Robinson-Foster – insisted the subsequent backlash the duo faced was “minimal compared to what people in Palestine are going through”.

Speaking in a chat recorded before the ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on October 10th, he added: “I don’t want to overstate the importance of the chant.

“That’s not what I’m trying to do, but if I have their support, they’re the people that I’m doing it for, they’re the people that I’m being vocal for, then what is there to regret? Oh, because I’ve upset some right-wing politician or some right-wing media?

“It wasn’t like we came off stage, and everybody was like [gasps]. It’s just normal.

“We come off stage. It’s normal. Nobody thought anything. Nobody. Even staff at the BBC were like ‘That was fantastic! We loved that!’ “

Bobby also insisted the chant itself was “unimportant”, adding: “What is important is the conditions that exist to allow that chant to even take place on that stage.

“And I mean, the conditions that exist in Palestine.

“Where the Palestinian people are being killed at an alarming rate. Who cares about the chant?”

Following their Glastonbury performance, Bob Vylan – who are also made up of drummer Bobbie Vylan, whose real name is Wade Laurence George – were dropped by their agency, UTA, and their US visas were revoked, meaning they had to cancel their North American tour.
