Blur wanted Glastonbury slot

Blur wanted to replace Foo Fighters at Glastonbury.

The ‘Parklife’ hitmakers – who recently headlined Isle of Wight festival and Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park – were tipped to take the Friday night slot when the ‘Everlong’ group pulled out after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg during a concert in Sweden, and guitarist Graham Coxon admitted they would have been delighted to return to the famous music event for the first time since topping the bill in 2009.

Graham said: "Yeah I was like ‘come on!’ but you know I think someone [else] was there."

However, the musician admits he is unsure whether the group could have "practically" taken on the slot, which has been given to Florence + the Machine.

He added to BBC Newsbeat: "Didn’t Florence already get in there? I don’t know whether practically we could have done it but that would have been fun."

While Blur enjoy performing at Glastonbury, the ‘Beetlebum’ musician admits he has few memories of the first time they played there.

He laughed: "No, no I can’t remember anything, that would have been in the 90s.

"I remember we were always very excited like children, just eating and drinking everything in sight but not remembering much about it."
