Blair Witch flops at box office

‘Blair Witch’ has flopped at the box office.
The sequel to the 1999 horror movie ‘The Blair Witch Project’ hit cinema screens on Friday (16.09.16), but its opening weekend failed to impress when it only managed to pull in an estimated $9.65 million.
However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom though, as writer Simon Barrett and director Adam Wingard are remaining in good spirits about their box office disaster and have both taking to the Twitter accounts to mock the film fail.
Simon, 37, tweeted: "Well, our horror film may have been a disappointment at the box office this weekend, but at least we got overwhelmingly negative reviews. (sic)"
To which Adam, 33, replied: "@Simon_Barrett bro I told you we shoulda made that movie about the boring guy who landed a plane in water instead. (sic)"
The "boring guy" referenced by the director is Chesley Sullenburger, the main character played by Tom Hanks in the movie ‘Sully’.
In the same weekend, ‘Sully’ managed to rake in a whopping $22 million, leaving ‘Blair Witch’ in second place and over $10 million behind the biopic.
Adam also joked that he had turned down working on the hugely successful biopic because it "wasn’t found footage".
He said: "Not many people know this but Simon and I turned down making ‘Sully’ because it wasn’t found footage. (sic)"
Simon – who previously worked with Adam on ‘You’re Next’ and ‘The Guest’ – followed up his tweets by insisting he was "hugely proud" of the movie they had made.
He said: "To clarify, I’m hugely proud of our film. But if you can’t be sardonically maudlin on Twitter, I’m totally unclear what this site is for. (sic)"
