Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie still regularly "check in" on each other.
The ‘Fargo’ star, who split from the ‘Maleficent’ actress, 38, in 2002 after two years of marriage, admits he is still very protective of her, even though she is engaged to Brad Pitt, with whom she has six children, Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, seven, and five-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Asked if they are still friends, the 58-year-old actor told Your Tango: "Of course. She’s amazing, amazing."
He added: "She’s got so much energy and so much goodness in her, and we check in on each other all the time. She makes sure I’m doing okay [and] I make sure she’s doing okay."
The ‘Monster Ball’ actor has been dating Connie Angland since 2003, with whom he has a 10-year-old daughter, Bella.
The ‘Bad Santa’ star also has three children, Amanda, William and Harry, from prior relationships.
Billy Bob previously admitted that he "blew" his marriage to the actress because of his insecurity.
During an interview in 2012, he said: "I blew it because I didn’t think I was good enough for her. She has one way she wanted to live her life and I had another way to live mine and I was just too insecure.
"I did feel like the Phantom of the Opera hiding in the catacombs. People have actually said that I didn’t deserve to be with her."
He added: "We had a great time together. We had a great marriage and I chickened out because I didn’t feel good enough. That’s all that happened. It was no big deal, we never hated each other."
