Benedict Cumberbatch’s ‘Doctor Strange’ role was "psychologically and physically" demanding.
The 40-year-old actor admits it was tough preparing for his role as the Marvel superhero and was told by Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, that it was one of the toughest regimes the studios had put an actor through.
He said: "He goes through so much psychologically and physically, which I can testify to as an actor. Kevin Feige went, ‘I don’t think we have put an actor through quite as much as this.’ I said, ‘I’ll wear that badge with pride.’"
And Benedict – who has 14-month-old son Christopher with his wife Sophie Hunter – admits he found it difficult balancing his work out regime and his young family.
He told The Sun newspaper: "It was a tough shoot from that point of view. It was very, very physically demanding. Not just getting all hench, as they say in Wales, the buffness you need for the superhero stuff.
"But also just day-to-day fitness and the stamina to do 14-15 hour days with very little turnaround and very little sleep and a baby at home and all the rest of it. So I did go through quite a lot. No pain, no gain. But for the character, hopefully it’ll show."
And Benedict is set to star in ‘Doctor Strange’ alongside Rachel McAdams.
At the time her casting was announced, she said: "I am going to go and do ‘Doctor Strange’. A Marvel … a kind of psychedelic Marvel comic with Benedict Cumberbatch. So yeah, I’m really looking forward to that."
‘Doctor Strange’ is slated for released in November 2016.
