Benedict Cumberbatch struggles saying ‘sorcerer’ in an American accent in Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch struggled to say ‘sorcerer’ in an American accent in ‘Doctor Strange’.
The 40-year-old actor, who plays the lead role as the Marvel superhero Doctor Stephen Strange in the fantasy film, which sees him switch from his native British tongue to speak in an American twang, has admitted he found it "really hard" to say the most popular word in the movie.
Speaking to Vulture Online about the movie, the dark-haired hunk said: "Funny enough ‘sorcerer’ is really hard [to say] for some reason. And that is a very important word for the character. There’s a lot of Rs going on in that one."
And the ‘Sherlock’ star has revealed he looked to the film’s director Scott Derrickson to help him perfect the dialect, because the rest of the crew on set were English.
Speaking about the person who helped him channel his inner American, he said: "Probably [‘Doctor Strange’ director] Scott Derrickson, because he was there all the time.
"The majority of the crew were English. We had American producers and Scott, and that was sort of it."
And Cumberbatch has admitted Harrison Ford has always "subconsciously" been a "great influence" on him and his acting career ever since he was a child.
He explained: "I was about to say Harrison Ford. You want a man like Harrison Ford in any film of this nature, but I don’t think it’s a Harrison Ford impression. But I think he’s just subconsciously a great influence on my childhood era."
Meanwhile Cumberbatch, who has 16-month-old son Christopher with his wife Sophie Hunter and are expecting their second child together, has credited his spouse as the true superhero.
Speaking previously about his partner, he said: "Although obviously the real superhero was my wife."
And the star believes he still has a lot to learn about parenthood.
He explained: "It’s Sophie’s biggest achievement. I’m still trying to prove myself as a dad. We’re expecting our second … I’ll be there all the way, absolutely."
