Benedict Cumberbatch has got engaged.
The ‘Imitation Game’ actor is to tie the knot with girlfriend Sophie Hunter after popping the question, but it is not yet known when the pair will head down the aisle.
News of the engagement was revealed in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of The Times newspaper.
The notice read: "The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London."
Benedict, 38, was first romantically linked with the 36-year-old theatre director in June when they were seen watching tennis together.
When asked about their romance in the summer, Sophie’s mother Katharine said: "Watch this space."
The pair were last seen together at London restaurant Quaglino’s, but they arrived separately and were keen not to be pictured together.
They first met when starring opposite one another in 2009’s ‘Burlesque Fairytales’.
Just a year ago the ‘Sherlock’ star insisted he wasn’t in a hurry to get married.
He said: "It’s a wonderful thing to get married young and become a father.
"I used to think that I’d get married by my mid-thirties and have children.
"But now I think I can wait. I’m no longer in a hurry to get married."
