Beck finds it ‘much harder’ to make uplifting tracks

Beck has found it "much harder" to make uplifting tracks.
The 46-year-old singer-songwriter – whose full name is Beck Hansen – has made a conscious effort to make his forthcoming tenth studio album more uplifting because he feels the other nine releases have been a little bit depressing and "downcast".
Speaking to Q magazine about his tracks, he explained: "I was constantly speeding up songs. I wanted to make something with uplift because I’ve made my fair share of downcast albums, which is a very natural type of music for me to make. This kind is far more difficult. It’s easy to break out dark emotions, whereas it’s much harder to cheer someone up."
The ‘Wow’ hitmaker has been in the studio working on the forthcoming release since he picked up the gong for Album of the Year at the 2014 Grammy Awards but the process has been slow because he’s had to wait for his longterm collaborator Greg Kurstin to be available.
Speaking about his forthcoming music, he said: "I had to wait for these little windows when Greg was free. So we pretty much wrote and recorded the whole thing between us."
Meanwhile Beck believes most of his optimism in this album, which is currently untitled, comes from recovering from his career ending spinal injury in 2005, which effectively "shut down business for almost a decade."
speaking about the life changing incident, he said: "It was really limiting for so many years. Everything I’d taken for granted, I suddenly didn’t/ I think everyone comes to a moment when life sits them down. That was definitely mine."
