BBC Three to air Canada’s Drag Race

BBC Three will show the first-ever Canadian version of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’.

The hit US drag queen competition – which is fronted by RuPaul – took to the UK last year, crowning The Vivienne, and has now travelled up north to find the next drag superstar for ‘Canada’s Drag Race’, with the new series set to stream directly on the BBC from July 3.

RuPaul said: "’Canada’s Drag Race’ airing on BBC is further proof that self-expression, creativity and the tenacity of the human spirit resonates around the globe."

The series will see 12 of Canada’s best drag queens compete for the chance to be crowned Queen through a series of challenges, which will be judged by RuPaul and guest judge Michelle Visage.

The duo will be joined by US series 11 alumni Brooke Lynn Hytes – who came second to winner Yvie Oddly – model and LGBQT+ activist Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, and TV personality Stacey McKenzie as permanent judges on the panel.

The upcoming series will feature a special twist, but it will also be sticking to the original framework of the award-winning series that sees the drag queens dance, sing and sew their way to the top.

Fiona Campbell, the controller of BBC Three, said: "We’re very excited that BBC Three will be the only place in the UK to watch the first ever Canada’s ‘Drag Race’ and to be working with World of Wonder again.

"With a brilliant combination of contestants, judges and challenges, it has all the ingredients of a spectacularly fun series – get ready to fall in love with these Canadian Queens!"
