Bastille’s worries about filling The O2

Bastille’s Dan Smith was "genuinely" worried people wouldn’t come to their forthcoming shows at London’s The O2.
The frontman – who is joined by Chris ‘Woody’ Wood, Will Farquarson and Kyle Simmons in the group – recalled seeing pop superstar Adele on her recent world tour at the venue, which seats 20,000 people and during the surreal moment he thought to himself that there couldn’t possibly be that many people who like his band’s music.
He told BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat: "We genuinely had no idea if people would come or not.
"I saw Adele recently who was basically living there for about two years.
"Just being in that room I found myself watching the crowd more because there were so many people there.
"I was thinking there can’t be that many people in the whole world who like our band."
Meanwhile, the ‘Of The Night’ hitmakers recently came under fire after releasing their music video for ‘Good Grief’, which contained scenes of nudity.
However, Dan insists it "intended to be artistic".
He said: "In the video, there are moments of violence that nobody cares about. I think that’s more interesting. I read one comment that was like, ‘Why is everyone talking about nudity when there’s a bank robbery that’s quite full on.’ That says a lot about our reactions. It’s intended to be artistic.
"Some people are bringing up the nudity and other people are immediately jumping to its defence saying it’s not sexualised and it doesn’t feel exploitative.
"The music video takes scenes and tropes and flips them on their head. One of which is a girl and I think it’s interesting to see the reaction it provokes. In some countries and some societies, female nudity isn’t remotely controversial."
Bastille’s ‘Wild Wild World Tour’ kicks off on October 28 in Bournemouth and they will play The O2 Arena on November 1 and November 2.
