Bastille’s Dan Smith co-wrote Tears For Fears song

Tears For Fears’ new song ‘I Love You But I’m Lost’ was co-written by Dan Smith from Bastille.
The ‘The Hurting’ hitmakers – Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith – worked with the ‘Pompeii’ singer and his band’s producer Mark Crew on one of their pieces of music in 13 years, along with the single ‘Stay’ from the band’s Greatest Hits LP ‘Rule The World’, which is out on November 10.
Roland says the song was born out of him and Dan having a sing-off and competing to be the loudest.
In an interview with The Sun newspaper, the 56-year-old musician revealed: "We had two days with them and that was it, in a little windowless studio.
"Sometimes you go into these things and it’s like speed dating. It’s a very modern way of working.
"I think a guy we worked with in LA had Britney Spears in the day before.
"When we met Dan and Mark, they didn’t have another version of ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ prepared. They had something quite different and that was our starting point.
"And Dan is a singer so it was like a ‘who could be the loudest in the room competition’ between us both and in the end I ‘Love You But I’m Lost’ was born."
While Dan was lucky enough to work with the electronic pioneers, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl wasn’t quite as lucky.
The ‘Monkey Wrench’ rockers reached out to the 80s singer Roland to ask him to appear on a track on their new record, ‘Concrete and Gold’ and though he never got back to them, Dave isn’t ruling out hope it could happen in the future.
He said recently: "There was a song on the new record that I thought would be amazing if Roland Orzabal sang on or helped produce.
"I emailed him – and never heard back. It would have been a dream come true, to get together with the singer from Tears for Fears."
