B.J. Novak: Tarantino made me want to be a director

B.J. Novak was inspired by Quentin Tarantino.

The ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ actor revealed he knew he wanted to become a director after starring in the American filmmaker’s movie, ‘Inglorious Basterds’.

The 35-year-old star said: "After I acted in his film ‘Inglorious Basterds’, I knew I wanted to direct. It feels like a natural extension – to take something you’ve created all the way to the finishing line. that’s why I visit schools now with my children’s book. I get real joy when I take my work directly to the reader."

The actor has previously explained why he liked Tarantino’s directing style so much, admitting he is "very loud and thoughtful" to work with.

He said: "Just by being in the background holding a machine gun watching him debate something with the director of photography. Or watching him coax a different direction out of Diane Kruger. So that was my favorite part of his directing style is that he is very loud and thoughtful, so I could sort of follow what he was doing and learn from it."

Meanwhile, ‘The Office’ director also said he finds children stimulating and admits he finds the company of adults a "bore".

He told The Independent newspaper: "Everyone bores me but children. There is something about being a celebrity that makes adult conversations tiring. You talk about the same things again and again. Children are never predictable, they don’t follow a format. They can say anything – and do often."
