Avatar 2 won’t be ready for Christmas 2017

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 2’ won’t be ready for Christmas 2017.

The long-awaited sequel to 2009’s ‘Avatar’ was due to take on ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ for a Christmas box office battle next year, but now industry insiders have revealed that the film has been delayed and 20th Century Fox hasn’t confirmed a new release date, according to The Wrap.

What’s more, two further planned sequels were due to follow ‘Avatar 2’ in 2018 and 2019 and the movie house has kept quiet on the schedule for these.

‘Avatar’ starred Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana as a former marine and native of an alien world who fall in love.

Humans communicate with the indigenous Na’vis from Pandora through a hybrid human-alien called an Avatar.

The epic blockbuster was seen as a breakthrough for movie-making for its use of visual effects – as the film was made available to watch in 3D and 4D and was subsequently the highest grossing movie at the box office of all time.

Cameron famously began planning ‘Avatar’ in 1994, so it might come as no surprise that it has taken this long to get the sequels off the ground.

Meanwhile, Sam and Zoe have signed on for the trilogy, which is expected to pick up where the original left off.
