Anneka Rice’s Strictly Come Dancing training impacted by fall

Anneka Rice has suffered a fall which has impacted her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ training sessions.
The 60-year-old actress and television presenter is set to take part in the BBC Latin and ballroom dance competition later this year, but has said her future on the show was in jeopardy before it even began when she slipped and injured her shoulder whilst on a walk.
She explained: "I had quite a bad accident and hurt my shoulder.
"I fell badly on a very wet grassy slope. I have been in physio for that so haven’t done what I needed to do."
Anneka has been in physio for the past six weeks trying to get back into shape before the live shows air toward the end of the year.
The ‘Treasure Hunt’ star says her injury is "getting better", but notes it has been holding her back from training as vigorously as the other 14 celebrities gearing up for the series.
She added: "It’s getting better but it’s meant I haven’t been able to do the ‘all singing, all dancing’. It’s slightly holding me back. I told the Strictly bosses ‘you do realise I won’t be able to do one of these steps.’"
Anneka – who is the oldest ‘Strictly’ contestant this series – has taken part in a number of celebrity reality shows including ‘Come Dine With Me’, ‘Celebrity Hunted’, and ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, but says she feels completely out of her comfort zone when it comes to dancing.
She said: "I feel so awkward about dancing. No one in my family has ever seen me dance and I’ve never done any classes or anything like that. I don’t know why, but I thought this was the year to learn."
The presenter has been asked to do ‘Strictly’ before but has always turned it down, and says she’s now ready to give it a go.
Speaking to The Sun Online, she said: "I’ve been asked to the show before but I’ve always said no straight away.
"I’ve always promised my children I’d never do anything to embarrass them while they were at school, but my last son is now out of university so I’ve just got a little window before I have grandchildren, so I thought ‘what the hell’.
"If I can’t get one of these lovely professionals to teach me how to dance, then nothing will."
