Angelina Jolie’s acting ‘frustration’

Angelina Jolie felt "frustrated" as an actress.

The 39-year-old star – who made her directorial debut with ‘The Land of Milk and Honey’ in 2011 and released her second picture ‘Unbroken’ this year – has confessed she didn’t feel, as an actress, as "connected" to films as she would have liked and is "much happier" working on movies behind the camera.

She told The Daily Telegraph Magazine: "As an actress, you learn about your character, and you understand the overall picture of any film you’re working on, but there’s so much you’re not a part of.

"There’s so many times I’ve felt frustrated with films I’ve been in, or seen them and not felt connected to them, or haven’t watched them at all. I’m much happier directing."

The Oscar-winner admitted she was nervous about making the switch from actress to director but felt compelled to take on the role with ‘The Land of Milk and Honey’ – which focusses on the atrocities committed by the Bosnian-Serb forces during the Serbian War between 1992 and 1995 – as she felt so strongly about the topic.

Angelina – who penned the script following a trip to Bosnia as part of her ambassadorial duties for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees – said: "I was nervous another director might be less sensitive about the material, so I volunteered myself.

"But I didn’t think I’d be any good at it. I just wanted to do my best."
