Angela Griffin laughs off Coronation Street theory

Angela Griffin and Alexandra Mardell have shared a laugh over the fan theory that their ‘Coronation Street’ characters could be related.
The ‘Corrie’ newcomer, who plays Emma Brooker in the ITV soap, has revealed the claims that her hair stylist alter-ego may be the daughter of Fiona Middleton – who Angela portrayed from 1992 to 1998 – are "definitely not true".
She said: "I’ve heard the Fiona and Steve’s daughter theory, but that’s definitely not true."
But Alexandra and Angela have spoken about the theory, and found it "quite funny".
She added to The Sun Online: "I did have a little chat and a joke with Angela Griffin about it and that was quite funny."
Alexandra’s comments come after fans took to Twitter to point out the similarities between Emma and Fiona – who was also a hairdresser – following Emma’s recent arrival as David Platt’s (Jack P. Shepherd) love interest.
One Twitter user wrote: "So how long before we find out that you’re Steve McDonald’s daughter from his brief relationship with the hairdresser? Fiona I think she was called? Great way to get Angela Griffin back. 🙂 (sic)"
Another shared: "I know I said she could be Kelly Crabtree’s daughter, isn’t Emma the right age to be Fiona & Steve’s daughter? #AngelaGriffin @simongregson123 #CoronationStreet (sic)"
One viewer wrote: "#corrie is it me? Or does Emma look like a young Fiona? Xx (sic)"
Angela has previously admitted her alter-ego could’ve been pregnant before she left, which sparked further speculation Emma could’ve been her baby.
In 2014, she said: "My idea for a return storyline – if I were to go back – was that I’d have been pregnant by Steve when I left. And I could then return with the child."
During her time in Weatherfield, Fiona dated Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and had an affair with his dad, Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson) – who will be returning to the cobbles later this year – as well as romancing Tony Horrocks (Lee Warburton).
But Fiona – who had a son, Morgan, with her ex Alan McKenna, who jilted her at the alter – departed Weatherfield in 1998 after Steve cheated on her with her best friend Maxine Heavey (Tracy Shaw).
