Andrew Lloyd Webber to DJ at Tony Awards party

Andrew Lloyd Webber will DJ at the Tony Awards afterparty.
The 70-year-old composer is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the annual ceremony – which honours excellence in theatre – on Sunday (10.06.18) and will be celebrating in style at New York hotel The Carlyle afterwards by taking charge of the decks.
Party organiser Rick Miramontez told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: "Andrew Lloyd Webber has had an incredible year, including a Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement. We’re transforming the Café Carlyle in his honour, so he can cap it all off by spinning at the party into the wee hours."
The afterparty invites have told invitees they can enjoy tunes from "Disco Lloyd Webber" from 1am, and ‘Carousel’ choreographer and Tony nominee Justin Peck was particularly taken by the idea.
He is said to have responded: "Disco Lloyd Webber??? I am so in!"
The ‘Phantom of the Opera’ composer previously admitted he was "overwhelmed" to have been chosen for the honour.
He said: "I am completely overwhelmed as a Brit to be honoured by the Broadway community at the Tonys, particularly at the time when musicals are flying higher in their spiritual home New York than they have for two generations."
Actress Chita Rivera will also receive the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theater and she and Andrew were previously hailed as "groundbreakers" by organisers.
Heather Hitchens, president and chief executive officer of the American Theatre Wing and Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League said in a statement: "The cultural impact that Chita and Andrew have had on the international theatre community and on theatre education, has been immeasurable. They are groundbreakers, they are inspirations."
The Tony Awards will be hosted from Radio City Music Hall in New York City by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban.
