Amy Walsh feels well prepared for Emmerdale character’s baby

Amy Walsh thinks she’ll be great with her ‘Emmerdale’ baby after looking after her five nephews.

The soap star – whose character Tracy Metcalfe is pregnant – isn’t worried about dealing with little ones on set because of her experiences with kids, including sister Kimberley Walsh’s sons Bobby and Cole.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, she said: "My sisters call me the baby whisperer because I just get them off to sleep straight away …

"If anyone’s experienced with babies, it’s me! I love children and hopefully that will help me understand their needs.

"I have tactics that I use and they work every time, so hopefully I can use that maternal instinct with the baby on set and keep them happy."

Amy is "looking forward" to having babies on set, despite the challenges of working with much younger co-stars.

She added: "Actually, I did try a bump the other day and I was really giddy!

"It’s a lot of fun for your character to be wearing different clothes, and changing the way they look.

"But to have a baby on set – although it doesn’t look easy – adds a whole other dimension to scenes, and I’m looking forward to it. You get a little snuggle in between takes, too!"

The 33-year-old actress also opened up about how her ‘Emmerdale’ alter ego could cope with the pregnancy, having previously decided not to have the baby she was expecting with David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden).

She explained: "It’s a tricky one for Tracy because going through that with David was something she never envisaged having to do, but it was the right decision at the time.

"For Tracy, the thought of having to do that again is just inconceivable. However, Tracy’s a bit older than she was then – she’s tougher and more independent as well.

"With this pregnancy, I think Tracy has much more strength behind her, and it almost feels as though she could do it alone if she had to."
