Amy Schumer slams sexual assault jokes

Amy Schumer has slammed people for "belittling" sexual assault victims by "making fun of the terror" they have endured.
The 37-year-old comedian and actress took to Twitter on Wednesday (19.09.18) to share a lengthy note in which she hit out at "any dude" who tries to make jokes about sexual assault, as she says the comments are "harmful" and offensive to "victims who have been wronged".
She wrote in the note that was posted as a picture on the micro-blogging site: "Any dude saying ‘I’m scared to be in a room with a woman now’ or ‘is it kay to say hello? I don’t know the new rules’ STOP.
"What you are doing is belittling victims who have been wronged. They say 1 in 6 women in our country are sexually assaulted. That’s based on who reports it. It’s been proved to be closer to 1 in 3. Your sisters/daughters
"Stop making fun of the terror and indignity most of us have faced in our lives. Again RBG quotes Sarah Grimke, I ask no favour for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.
"If you’re confused about the new rules. Just ask and don’t make it a joke. Because that’s harmful and we don’t want to hear that kind of joke right now. Mmmmmkay? (sic)"
This isn’t the first time the ‘Trainwreck’ star – who is married to Chris Fischer – has spoken out in defence of sexual harassment victims.
In 2017, she joined other stars at the Women’s March in Washington D.C., and also commented on fellow comedian and friend Aziz Ansari’s sexual misconduct allegation that same year, saying the focus should be on the alleged victim rather than the star’s career.
She said at the time: "I don’t think anyone wants to see Aziz’s career ruined or his life ruined or anything like that, but that’s where people’s minds go. They go, ‘Does he deserve this?’ And it’s really not about that. I think it’s about expressing and showing women that that behaviour’s not okay and not only can you leave, but you need to leave."
