American Honey wins four gongs at British Independent Film Awards

‘American Honey’ swept the board picking up four gongs at the British Independent Film Awards 2016.
The road movie, directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Shia LaBeouf, was presented with the Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Sasha Lane and the Outstanding Craft prize for the cinematography of Robbie Ryan at the glitzy bash held at London’s Old Billingsgate on Sunday night (04.12.16).
Elsewhere, Dave Johns won Best Actor for his role as the titular character in Ken Loach’s ‘I, Daniel Blake’, whilst his co-star Hayley Squires took home the gong for Most Promising Newcomer.
The award for Best International Independent Film went to ‘Moonlight’, a film which has already picked up an impressive amount of awards and has even generated buzz for a possible Oscar nomination.
But it was foreign language film ‘Under The Shadow’ – performed in Persian and directed by Babak Anvari – which surprised audiences at the ceremony, taking home a total of three gongs for Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress for Avin Manshadi, and The Douglas Hickox Award for Debut Director.
And it wasn’t just the award winners who turned out to the event, as the likes of Michael Fassbender, Jamie Dornan, Martin Freeman, Naoime Harris, Patrick Stewart, and Danny Boyle were also present.
