Amanda Redman joins comedy Bumps

Amanda Redman has joined the cast of ‘Bumps’.
The 62-year-old actress will star in the new BBC comedy in which she will play divorced mother-of-two Anita, who decides to have a third baby with the aid of an egg and sperm donor, and unbeknown to her one of her grown-up kids Joanne (Lisa McGrillis) discovers she is expecting at the same time.
Amanda said: "I am delighted to play Anita in this uplifting and hilariously entertaining BBC One comedy.
"Lucy and Rhys are very talented writers and I look forward to hearing what viewers think of the mayhem."
Lisa added: "I am thrilled to be a part of this dysfunctional family comedy. It follows a mother and daughter’s unconventional pregnancies and the effect this has on there already strained relationship and family.
"Lucy and Rhys tell this unusual story with real heart-warming humour. I’m excited to see where it will go."
The show has been written by Lucy Montgomery and Rhys Thomas, who will also make appearances.
Lucy stars as local barmaid Fallon, and Rhys will play Joanne’s idle partner Clay.
Philip Jackson will play Howard, Joanne’s father and Anita’s ex-husband; Louise Jameson is to star as Barbara, Anita’s older sister; and Seb Cardinal will take on the role of Aiden, Anita’s son.
What’s more, ‘Harry Potter’ star Leila Hoffman will play Ruby, Anita’s mum; Freddie Davies will play Roy, Anita’s father; and Jason Pennycooke and Clarke Peters will also star in the show.
Last year, Amanda hit out at the "ridiculous" discrepancy between the number of TV roles around for men and women.
She said: "It’s basically just luck.
"Misogyny was rife when I started out. You’d moan about it with your friends, but you just got on with it.
"Still now, if you tot up the number of roles for women and the number of roles for men, the discrepancy is ridiculous.
"Things are changing, but not fast enough. You only have to look at British television. We are worse than the States."
