Alex James: ‘Precious’ Oasis should reform

Alex James thinks it would be a "disaster" if Liam and Noel Gallagher decided not to reform their band Oasis.
The 44-year-old former Beady Eye frontman has made no secret of the fact he’d restart the group "tomorrow" if his older brother – who he fell out with in 2009 and has had a bitter feud with ever since – decided to jump on board.
And the Blur singer – whose band split in 2003 but reformed in 2008 – really hopes the related rivals can put their differences aside for the sake of their "precious" talent.
Speaking to Yahoo Celeb, Alex, 47, said: "I really do hope they do get back together. It’s a wonderful thing. When you’ve got something that’s so important in your life it’s really horrible to be estranged from it really.
"It is kind of heartbreaking. It would be a shame to think it was lying dormant or it was never going to happen again. It’s a really precious thing, it’s a craft and it would be a disaster to think it would go to waste."
Alex’s determination to bring the brothers back together for the sake of music will no doubt come as a surprise to fans seeing as Blur and Oasis were once huge rivals, but he’s adamant they now have a lot of respect for each other.
He explained when asked if he bumps into Liam or Noel: "Yeah occasionally, I think both bands sort of really earned each other’s respect in the end. I certainly respect them."
Since Blur – comprised of Alex, Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon and Dave Rowntree – reformed eight years ago, they continue to sell out gigs but Alex accepts that they may never write music like they did when they were younger.
He said: "Pop music is the dreams of youth expressed by the voices of youth. I think a lot of people in bands can suffer because if success is going to come in music it tends to come quite quickly and quite young. And you can spend the rest of your life being defined by something you did when you were really, really young. A lot of people in bands suffer with that, you know Led Zeppelin aren’t going to write another ‘Stairway To Heaven’ are they?
"But I do sort of firmly believe that I might invent the best cheese in the world, ever."
