Alex Beresford pays tribute to late step-grandmother

Alex Beresford has opened up about his step-grandmother’s heartbreaking death.
Although the 39-year-old weather presenter doesn’t believe his gran died from Covid-19, the pandemic lockdown left him and his family unable to be with her as she passed away in a care home earlier this week.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, Alex explained: "She has been in a care home. Ironically she used to work in care homes when she first came to England. We don’t believe that she died of Covid-19, although we understand she did have a cough in the last week, but we don’t believe it’s Covid. We’re still waiting to find out. Whatever reason she died of, the circumstances are still very much the same. Because she was in a care home, it was understandably on lockdown. Unfortunately for us as a family, it meant we missed her last Mother’s Day, her 77th birthday, and her last day."
Alex also explained that under normal circumstances, his grandmother would have been surrounded by her large family in her final days.
He said: "She comes from a massive family and in normal circumstances we would’ve all gathered there en masse and she wouldn’t have been alone.
"Unfortunately, like many people who are passing away in these circumstances, they’re passing away alone. It’s not been great. My heart goes out to family and everyone else in this situation. This is happening up and down the country."
He went on to praise his grandmother as a "very strong woman".
He said: "She was a very powerful, strong woman. Very God fearing. In her later years if you asked if she was okay, she would say, ‘I’m OK, but the lord knows best’. I think that’s helping us all get through this. She would have put her trust in God and understood why things have panned out this way. We will miss her massively."
