Alan Titchmarsh quits TV for fear of dying young

Alan Titchmarsh is quitting his chatshow because he doesn’t want to die young.

The 64-year-old presenter wants to cut down on his TV work because he doesn’t want to risk overdoing it and not being around to watch his grandchildren grow up.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "My dad died at 62 and I’ve outlived him. I just thought, ‘Pace yourself, sunshine, don’t go at it like a bull at a gate’.

"I’ll never stop completely because I’d be bored rigid. But I think I should just ease up as I’d like to be around to see my grandchildren for quite a while."

Alan recently announced the next series of ‘The Alan Titchmarch Show’, which brings in around a million viewers every day, would be his last because he wants to make sure he leaves on a high.

Alan – who has been a TV regular for four decades – explained: "This is my eighth year and 15th series of the chat show. If you stay doing the same you get stale and the viewers get weary and I’d rather move on.

"I didn’t expect to be working this hard at this age. TV is a young person’s game."

The final series of ‘The Alan Titchmarsh Show’, which airs weekdays on ITV, will be filmed later this year.
