Alan Fletcher would love to do Neighbours live episode for 35th anniversary

Alan Fletcher would "love to be part of" a ‘Neighbours’ live episode for the show’s 35th anniversary – but admitted it might be "horrendous".
The 62-year-old star – who plays Karl Kennedy in the Channel 5 soap – believes the show’s cast would all relish the opportunity to appear in such a special ep, but says it would be "very scary" and he isn’t sure what the actors would "get out of it".
When asked whether he would like to star in a live episode for Neighbours’ 35th anniversary, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "It would be horrendous."
Speaking in a joint interview, Bonnie Anderson – who plays Bea Nilsson on the show – said: "It would be quite funny, and very scary."
Alan added: "We [Australia] had one show that went live, it was called ‘Blue Heelers’, and you could see people waiting to come on and all sorts of stuff.
"But if we did do a live episode of ‘Neighbours’ for the 35th it would be very cool and we would all love to be part of it, but it would be very scary.
"I’m just not quite sure what you get out of that, other than the audience thinking, ‘Go on, go wrong.’
"Even if it’s live it should just appear to be another episode."
Alan will also celebrate a personal milestone in September when it will be 25 years since he first appeared in Erinsborough as Karl, but the actor insists he doesn’t need any gifts from the show’s bosses because still being in the role is "reward enough".
Quizzed on whether he is expecting a golden clock for his efforts, he added: "Having the job is a reward enough.
"But Jackie [Woodburne, Susan Kennedy] and I will be having a lovely celebration for 25 years, of course.
"We will all be celebrating 35 years of ‘Neighbours’ next year and all our energy and focus is going to be running to that."
‘Neighbours’ airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
