AC/DC former singer Dave Evans offers to cover for Brian Johnson

AC/DC’s former singer Dave Evans would be happy to step in for Brian Johnson now he has hearing problems.

The 62-year-old fronted the heavy metal band briefly when it was formed by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young in November 1973 until he was replaced by the late Bon Scott in September 1974.

After discovering that Johnson has been advised by doctors to stop touring or risk completely losing his hearing earlier this week, Evans has made it known that he’d be willing to cover for the frontman.

Evans, 62, said: "A lot of people make jokes about going deaf from listening to loud music. It’s never been a problem for me. I just thought it was sad news. It’s your lifeblood as a singer, live performances are so personal, without the crowd and the adrenaline, it’s going to be hard for him. Performances are the big highs in our lives.

"It would be nice to do one guest performance. [Former members] were all part of the band no matters what era they were from."

However, Johnson – who recorded the vocals for their first few singles, including ‘Can I Sit Next To You Girl’ and ‘Baby Please Don’t Go’ – has no doubt the ‘Highway To Hell’ hitmakers will soldier on for as long as they have lead guitarist Angus Young in the group.

Evans – who went on to front Rabbit in the mid-70s – told The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper: "So long as Angus is there in his uniform … it’s a branding thing now, the name AC/DC is almost bigger than the [members of the] band itself. It’s a massive thing all over the world."

The band announced that they are rescheduling 10 shows on the US leg of their ‘Rock or Bust’ world tour with a guest vocalist.

More information regarding the shows are expected to follow.
