Aaron Taylor-Johnson cried during Godzilla

Aaron Taylor-Johnson cried when he watched ‘Godzilla’.

The 23-year-old actor stars as military man Lieutenant Ford Brody in the science fiction monster film, but he’s confessed he was brought to tears by his co-stars’ performances.

He said: "The first 10-15 minutes, the performance from Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche, I was trying to suppress and hold back tears.

"I didn’t know whether I was allowed to cry, I was like, ‘This is a monster movie but I can’t really stop this!’"

The ‘Anna Karenina’ star – who is married to his ‘Nowhere Boy’ director Sam Taylor-Wood – admits he was hoping to watch the film for the first time in privacy, as he gets embarrassed watching himself on-screen.

He told Collider.com: "I preferred to see it just me and my wife but I can never do that without everyone going, ‘OK, so you’re going to have a screening with the managers and agents’, and they’re all behind you and you think, ‘I just want to watch this on my own’.

"I feel like I just kind of need to digest it for myself."

Taylor-Johnson also revealed that despite initially being sceptical about starring in a remake of ‘Godzilla’ when he was approached by the director, he couldn’t be more proud of the end result.

He added: "I do find it really hard to watch myself but I think, ultimately, I was able to see it in the bigger picture and I was hugely thrilled and happy.

"I’m super proud of this movie and am so happy I sat down with Gareth [Edwards] on that day and said yes."
