Prince Charles continues as Patron of North of England Horticulture Society

Britain’s Prince Charles is to continue as Patron of the North of England Horticulture Society (NEHS) for the next five years.

The Prince of Wales became patron of the organisation, which was established in 1911 and organises two flower shows a year in Harrogate, Yorkshire, in 2010 and is to maintain the title for the next half-decade.

NEHS chairman Chris Smith said: "We are honoured to have HRH The Prince of Wales as our Patron and delighted that he has agreed to continue as an ambassador for the society.

"His knowledge of horticulture and passion for gardening are second to none, and we look forward to working with him to further develop the important role the NEHS plays in supporting and promoting horticulture in the north."

Meanwhile, the charity’s president Lucinda Compton is also set to continue in her role until 2017 years following her successful two-year run.

Smith added to the Harrogate Advertiser newspaper: "Lucinda has done tremendous work in furthering the cause of the NEHS and is a valued member of our team.

"We are delighted that she has agreed to continue as President for two more years."

In 2014 the NEHS funded more than 30 gardening projects, ranging from growing vegetables at schools for food banks to the restoration of war memorials.
