Sophie Turner and Kit Harington defend Game of Thrones nudity

Sophie Turner and Kit Harington have defended the nudity in ‘Game of Thrones’ as "necessary".

The 18-year-old actress and the 28-year-old actor, who play Sansa Stark and Jon Snow respectively in the HBO series, have spoken out against criticism of the amount of female nudity in the show, claiming it is an accurate representation of "medieval times".

Sophie said: "I think, on ‘Game of Thrones’ – as much as some people would like to disagree with me – it’s all very necessary.

"I mean, women in those times – medieval times – didn’t really have a huge say in the world. They couldn’t manipulate that well through their power because they didn’t have a huge amount.

"I think one of the main ways that women can use what they have is through sex. They can really manipulate people through men’s desire… So I think it is quite necessary that [the writers] show that aspect."

Sophie’s male co-star agreed with her points, adding that there’s also a lot of male nudity in the show, although he believes there should be an equal amount of each.

According to Digital Spy, Kit said at a press conference: "I sometimes get annoyed with that question – I do think there should be an equal amount [but] I think it’s wrong to say there isn’t any male nudity in Thrones.

"There’s more than in any other show – it’s just the ratio [that’s skewed]."
