Bear Grylls: I don’t tell my wife about eating poo

Bear Grylls doesn’t tell his wife when he’s eaten poo at work in case she refuses to kiss him.

The ‘Mission Survive’ star has become famous for drinking his own urine and eating animal excrement on his survival programmes but admits he doesn’t tell his wife Shara about the strange things he consumes as it puts her off being affectionate with him.

Asked if she’s ever had to leave the room while watching his shows, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Yeah, there have definitely been a few moments where I’ve gone, ‘Oh, let’s see what’s on the other channel’. I’ve learnt not to tell her a huge amount of stuff on that side of things. She goes, ‘Do you eat anything weird when you’re away?’ And I go, ‘No [shakes head]’. So yeah, I work on minimal information otherwise I’d never get kissed!"

The 40-year-old adventurer admits it’s difficult being away from Shara and their sons Jesse, Huckleberry and Marmaduke when he’s away filming in remote locations and claims he avoids celebrity events in a bid to keep their lives as normal as possible.

Speaking about what he misses the most when he’s away from home, Bear explained: "Just, you know, I’ve got three young boys who are a huge part of my life and the hardest part of me being away a lot but we’re pretty disciplined now about how we film. We film parts, get in, get back home, say no to whatever showbizzy stuff surrounds work and just focus on filming, getting home and being with my family."

And although Bear has challenged eight celebrities to conquer their fears for his new ITV show, he insists he has no plans to swap scaling waterfalls and eating bugs for learning to jive on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Quizzed on whether he’d ever take part in any reality TV shows, he said: "It’s always important to get out of your comfort zone but I’m not going to be doing any of those things imminently, no. We’re so busy with our stuff and love what we do."

‘Mission Survive’ kicks off on Friday February 20 at 9pm on ITV.
