Luke Evans says Hobbit trilogy taught him value of patience

Luke Evans has learned the value of patience by working on Hollywood blockbusters.

The 35-year-old star – who appears in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy as Bard the Bowman and as the vampire Dracula in the character’s film origin story, ‘Dracula Untold’ – says that because such movies take so long to come together, it’s easy to become frustrated.

Asked what the films taught him about the industry, Evans replied: "Patience. You’ve got to have a lot of patience on a long movie like ‘The Hobbit’, because there’s a lot of hanging about. It is about learning how to wait – that’s what Meryl Streep says: ‘The acting you get is free, it’s the waiting about you have to pay for.’

"It is absolutely worth it, though. When you see the finished product and the credits role with all of the people who have contributed their time and energy. It does make it all very real. With ‘Dracula’ everybody committed so much of themselves. I am very proud of it."

Evans also said he’s relieved to be able to talk about ‘The Hobbit’ films, having been sworn to secrecy for so long.

He told GQ magazine: "It was fun to see all three Hobbit films out and doing so well. Especially after years of not being able to talk about them. At the time all I wanted to talk about was how good the third movie [The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies] was."
