Ben Hardy: I think Abi Branning killed Lucy

‘EastEnders’ actor Ben Hardy thinks Abi Branning killed Lucy Beale.

The 24-year-old star, who plays Lucy’s brother Peter Beale on the BBC One soap, has revealed he thinks his on-screen sister’s former lover Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) daughter Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) is the murderer and insists none of the Beale family – including on-screen father Ian (Adam Woodyatt) and step-mum Jane (Laurie Brett) – are guilty.

Quizzed on who he thinks might be unveiled as the killer, he told BANG Showbiz at the National Television Awards at The O2 in London last night (21.01.15): "Abi. It’s not a Beale … But that’s just what I think."

A clue as to who killed Lucy, who was played by Hetti Bywater at the time of her death, was revealed during the live awards ceremony, leading many to believe Ben’s guess might be correct.

A box containing a mobile phone was guarded by security until mid-way through the show when host Dermot O’Leary pressed play on a recording of Lucy’s music box, which it was revealed is the last noise she heard before she died.

However, fans will have to wait until the soaps 30th anniversary next month to find out for sure.

Meanwhile, Ben – who announced his departure from ‘EastEnders’ last year – has confessed he’s "excited" about moving on.

He said: "I’m excited, it’s going to be sad to leave because I’ve made some good friends but I’m excited. I never really planned to stay for too long, I get bored staying in one place for too long but that’s just me, that’s nothing to do with ‘EastEnders’."
