Calum Best to shoot documentary about late father

Calum Best is to shoot a documentary about his late father.

The former model is set to start work on the programme about football legend George Best’s struggle with alcoholism when his stint on ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ comes to an end.

The 33-year-old star has called on Oscar-winning producer Simon Egan – who is known for his work on the critically acclaimed ‘The King’s Speech’ – to help make the documentary, which will trace the footballer’s roots.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Calum will present the film and is excited about the opportunity to tell his father’s story.

"The fact a huge Oscar winner and his production company are backing the project means he is assured the subject matter will be respectfully handled.

"Some of George’s old celeb pals are going to be interviewed, as well as figures from the sports world."

The series will also include an "emotional" interview with Calum’s mother Angie, whose relationship with the legendary sportsman ended due to his fondness for drink and liaisons with other women, before his death aged 59 in 2005.

The source explained: "Calum will also interview his mother Angie who left George because of his womanising and drinking — so that will be emotional."

The movie – which is tipped to be screened at a number of international film festivals – will be produced in a similar style to ‘Senna’, which followed the life of racing driver Ayrton Senna da Silva, who tragically died in an accident during the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.

The source added: "As Calum is a producer he could get a gong if all goes well."
