Randy Savage to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame by Hulk Hogan

‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage is to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Hulk Hogan.

The late wrestler is to be honoured for his incredible 15-year sports entertainment career which saw him crowned WWE Champion twice, WCW World Heavyweight Champion four times and Intercontinental champion.

Savage died in May 2011 at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack at the wheel of his car while driving in Tampa, Florida, and his former Mega Powers tag team partner, long-time friend and frequent opponent Hogan has the honour of inducting him.

It was announced that the grappling legend – who also had a successful acting career, and appeared in the 1992 ‘Spider-Man’ film as wrestler Bonesaw McGraw – is the first entrant in the Class of 2015 on TV show ‘RAW’ on Monday night (12.01.14).

Savage’s absence from the Hall of Fame was criticised by WWE fans and some of his peers and rumours had been rife that he would not be honoured because of a strained relationship with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

During an interview with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin broadcast on the WWE Network McMahon was asked if Savage would ever be inducted, to which he replied: "Oh, absolutely. Definitely … I’m not so sure if it’s this year, but it’d be soon. Yes, he’s going in."

Savage – real name Randy Mario Poffo – was the son of wrestler Angelo Poffo and he was managed by his real life wife ‘Miss Elizabeth’ Hulette.

The couple split in 1992 and Savage remarried in May 2010 when he tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Barbara Lynn Payne.

He will be the 121st inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. The other entrants in the Class of 2015 will be announced in the coming weeks.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 28, the day before ‘WrestleMania 31’ is held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
