‘Gogglebox’ star Leon Bernicoff was rushed to hospital last weekend.
The 80-year-old reality TV personality had to be taken to hospital after falling ill just days after celebrating the landmark birthday, with wife and co-star June later revealing he had picked up a suspected virus.
Speaking after her husband was discharged, she told the Liverpool Echo newspaper: "Leon is okay.
"He didn’t feel well on Sunday night and we called an ambulance and the ambulance staff thought he should go in.
"It all happened really, really, quickly.
"He spent the night in the Royal Liverpool and was allowed home on Monday. They think it was a virus and he’s now been told to get plenty of rest."
June – who provides commentary on the week’s most talked about TV events on the Channel 4 show with husband Leon – later took to the couple’s Twitter account to thank the "fantastic" staff at the hospital.
She wrote: "Thanks to NHS Liverpool Royal Hospital Emergency Dept. You were great even though very busy!!!"
She also called on Prime Minister David Cameron to help the "over-staffed" A&E departments at hospitals across the country.
She added: "NHS Emergency depts are over-run and under-staffed but still do a fantastic job. Are you reading this Prime Minister?"
