Benedict Cumberbatch is over the moon about becoming a father

Benedict Cumberbatch is "over the moon" that his fiancée is pregnant.

The ‘Imitation Game’ star and theatre director Sophie Hunter – who got engaged in November – have confirmed they’re set welcome their first child into the world later this year.

A spokesperson for the couple told PEOPLE.com: "I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon."

A source recently revealed the couple are planning to get married before their baby arrives.

The insider said: "Sophie is a few months along, and both she and Benedict are very excited about it. They are also quietly planning to marry in early spring."

The 38-year-old British heartthrob previously admitted his mother was desperate for him to start a family.

Asked if he was planning to have children, he said: "Oh, my God. Well, my mother is also waiting for Cumberbabies."

The ‘Sherlock’ star also confessed that announcing his engagement to Sophie was the highlight of 2014 for him.

He said "I’ve had the most important news of my life.

"That’s also sort of private, I don’t want to talk about that too much. But my engagement to the woman I love is obviously the most important thing of 2014 for me."
