James Corden wants to play Rocky Balboa

James Corden dreams of playing Rocky Balboa.

The Tony Award-winning actor stars in ‘Into The Woods’, alongside Hollywood heavyweights Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep, but James has revealed his ultimate ambition is to assume the role of the professional boxer.

Speaking at the UK gala for the new Disney film, the 36-year-old star told BANG Showbiz: "There are so many roles I’d like to play. I’d love to play Max Bialystock in ‘The Producers’, I’d love to play Pseudolus in ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’. I’d love to play Rocky!"

Although ‘Into The Woods’ boasts a stellar cast – which also includes Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine – James insisted there were no egos on the set and he feels privileged to have worked with so many talented people.

He shared: "They’re the best group of people I’ve ever worked with, I feel honoured to have shared the same space as them. I really, really am."

James also said the film – which has been adapted by James Lapine from his and Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning Broadway show of the same name – tells an important message.

Asked to explain the meaning of the musical fantasy film, James said: "No-one is alone. No-one is on their own, ever."

‘Into The Woods’ is released worldwide later this week.
