Amy Poehler has been named 2015 Woman of the Year by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals.

The student group are bestowing their prestigious honour onto the ‘Parks and Recreation’ star because her comedy

"fits so well with the Pudding’s own tradition of satire and social commentary."

Hasty Pudding Theatricals president Jason Hellerstein also said: "We are extremely excited to announce Amy Poehler as our 2015 Woman of the Year. She is an accomplished performer, incredible comedian, and an inspiration to everyone in the Hasty Pudding.

"We look forward to welcoming Ms. Poehler and celebrating and honouring her achievements in a truly unique and memorable way."

To celebrate the honour, Amy will lead a parade through Harvard Square on January 29 before being the subject of a roast.

The Man of the Year will be announced at a later date.

Last year, the titles were bestowed on Dame Helen Mirren and Neil Patrick Harris, while previous winners include Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, Claire Danes, Charlize Theron, Kiefer Sutherland, Justin Timberlake, James Franco and Jay Leno.

Amy, 43, previously visited Harvard in 2011 when she offered advice as Class Day speaker the day before graduation.
