Britain’s Queen Elizabeth attends church

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II continued her Christmas celebrations by attending a church service in Sandringham.

The 88-year-old monarch arrived at St Mary Magdalene Church, which lies to the north west of the royal family’s grand Sandringham estate, by Range Rover followed by her husband Prince Philip, 93, who wrapped up in a camel coat to make the short journey from their property on foot.

The chilly wind kept the Queen – who was dressed in a vibrant purple coat and hat – from greeting onlookers outside the church as she hurried inside to escape the cold.

Following the ceremony she returned to her waiting car where she was immediately passed a blanket to keep warm.

Despite bracing the cold for his walk to the service, Prince Philip also failed to stop to greet the well-wishers, reports the Mirror newspaper.

Two young girls were spotted chasing after the Prince with bouquets but were stopped by a royal aide who promised to do his best to safely deliver the flowers.

Noticeably absent from the festive service was the rest of the royal family who are set to join the Queen and her husband at Sandringham over the Christmas period.

She will be joined by Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son Prince George.

The group will enjoy lunch at Sandringham after attending another traditional service at the parish.
