Andrew Sachs has joined the cast of ‘EastEnders’.
The veteran actor – who is well known for playing the role of Manuel in the comedy series ‘Fawlty Towers’ – is to make a guest stint in the soap for a handful of episodes in the new year.
Although producers are yet to reveal who the 84-year-old star will play, appearing in a soap is nothing new for Andrew, having previously appeared in ITV’s ‘Coronation Street’.
In 2009, the father-of-three was cast in the soap opera as the brother of Norris, Ramsay Clegg, featuring in 27 episodes in the role.
The ‘Quartet’ star became embroiled in controversy in 2008 when Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross left rude voicemails on his answering machine as part of a game on Russell’s BBC Radio 6 Music show, sparking national outrage and culminating in both comedians being suspended from their roles within the BBC.
The character will join the much-loved BBC One soap after Christmas, which promises to be an explosive period for the show as Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) discovers his wife was raped by his nephew, leaving questions over who is the father of her unborn baby.
