Jack Whitehall is named King of Comedy for third year running


Jack Whitehall has been named the King of Comedy for the third year running.

The ‘Bad Education’ star was honoured at the British Comedy Awards last night (16.12.14), beating David Mitchell, Greg Davies, Lee Mack, Jo Brand and Graham Norton to the crown, after receiving the most public votes.

The ceremony – hosted by Jonathan Ross – saw Monty Python awarded the British Comedy Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, which, on their request, was collected by Dara O’Briain.

Brendan O’Carroll was honoured with The Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Award for his work on BBC show, ‘Mrs Browns Boys’.

‘The IT Crowd’s Katherine Parkinson and Harry Enfield won awards for Best TV Comedy Actress and Actor respectively whilst ‘Would I Lie To You’s Lee Mack accepted an award for Best Male TV Comic and ‘8 Out of 10 Cat’s Aisling Bea took home the Best Female TV Comic award.

Graham Norton bagged two awards: the Best Comedy Entertainment Personality and Best Comedy Entertainment Programme.

For the second year running, ‘Would I Lie To You’ took home the award for Best Comedy Panel Show whilst ‘Moone Boy’ won the Best Sitcom award.

The Best Comedy Film gong was handed to ‘The Inbetweeners 2’ with ‘Modern Family’ being honoured with the Best International Comedy Programme.

The award show will be aired tonight (17.12.14) at 9pm on Channel 4.
