‘Jungle Book: Origins’ release date has been pushed back to 2017.
The film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s 1894 novel ‘The Jungle Book’ was originally scheduled to be released in October 21, 2016 however, it has since been delayed by 12 months, making the new date October 6, 2017.
‘Jungle Book: Origins’ marks the directorial debut for Andy Serkis, who has encouraged Warner Brothers to use motion capture technology to create the animation for the film.
The 50-year-old actor has long been in favour of the technique – which also brought his ‘Lord of the Rings’ character, Gollum to life – but it’s thought the necessary post-production time required to achieve the special effects will slow down the project.
Despite the delays, Andy has confirmed that he is already working with several members of the high profile cast including Benedict Cumberbatch (who is playing Shere Khan), Christian Bale (Bagheera) and Cate Blanchett (Kaa).
As well as directing, Andy will also play the lovable bear Baloo in the film.
The move by Warner Brothers means the remake will launch two decades after Disney released their famous cartoon version in 1967, which featured the vocal talents of George Sanders and Phil Harris.
