Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid an emotional tribute to the victims of the 9/11 bombings yesterday (09.12.14).
In the pouring rain Their Royal Highnesses admired the re-built One World Trade Center, which was completed in November 2014, following the horrific terror attacks in September 2011.
The royal couple, both 32, looked sombre as they stood beside the two memorial pools in New York City, before Catherine delicately placed a bouquet of white roses on the memorial, which is engraved with the names of the almost 2,900 victims, including 67 British citizens.
The Duke and Duchess were then invited inside the National September 11 Memorial & Museum by the its president Joe Daniels.
Later that night, William and Catherine attended a gala dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate the 600th anniversary of St Andrews university – where the couple studied and fell in love.
Their engagements in New York marked the end of the royals’ three-day trip to America, as they returned to the UK that evening.
